Move to Improve – Weekend Schedule

Turning a sad day into a beautiful day- Playshop at Mawaheb

We all have certain days of the year that remind us of sad things that happened in our lives. Whether it be painful memories of a tragic incident or happy memories spent with a loved one who has passed away. We had wanted to visit Mawaheb studio the first week that they were back to school and we always go on a Tuesday. Upon looking at the calendar we realized that Tuesday was 9/11. 9/11 is indeed a day of remembrance and for some of us a very sad and reflective day. There’s an old saying “the best way to cheer oneself is to cheer another” and that is just what we did. As always, it proved to be a wonderful day of laughter and gratitude. So on those sad days, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect then take the next moment to help someone else. Take your pain and transform it into something joyous….. the rewards are greater than you can ever imagine.

Mawaheb from Beautiful People is an art school for teen and adult artists with special needs. The staff, teachers and students are extremely talented and passionate. Their art is from the heart. If you’d like to check out their studio, purchase art work or learn more about them click here: http://www.facebook.com/Mawahebart

Remembrance – 9/11

by Mina Liccione

Some days you remember, other days you can’t forget.
Each year I light a candle and pray for those lost and for those left behind….

Some days you remember, other days you can’t forget
Each year on this day I look around me and see innocent people being killed…..

Some days you remember, other days you can’t forget
Just like everyday is someone’s birthday… every day is someone’s last day…

Some days you remember, other days you can’t forget.
Some days I remember to be grateful for each and every thing I have, other days I may complain, fewer days I may forget.

Today I remember. This day I will never forget.
Today I remember. Your tears I will not forget.
Today I remember. Your life I will not forget.

Today I pray for every family, every friend, every brother, every sister, every son and daughter, every person around the world who has lost a loved one to a tragic death, war, attacks, hate. Past, Present… hopefully not future.

September Drive: Collecting used items for Charity Flea

Hello everyone!

For the month of September we are collecting used items in good shape that can be re-sold for charity. All items will be delivered to charity organizations participating in the upcoming Flea Markets for Charity. Items can include: clothing, house hold items and appliances, books, dvds, toys, you name it. We just ask that the items are in good enough shape to be re-used. If you would like to drop items off at our JLT Office, please send us an email to LOL@vivadubai.com with the subject “September Drive”. Thank you!

Our best,

Live It Up : Elevating Lives

On Aug 29 our co-director Ali Al Sayed was invited to be the guest of honor and speaker for Live It Up’s Conscious Dinner. All proceeds went directly to L.I.U.’s home for rescued children in Uganda. Since posting the announcement many people asked “what is Live It Up?” so we thought we’d post some information to help create awareness about this fantastic organization and how you can get involved. Ali had a wonderful time at the dinner and was honored to be able to support this incredible cause.

 Live It Up’s Mission:

Live it up Foundation transforms the lives of marginalized children, specifically those who are orphaned or abandoned and helps them to become healthy, independent, productive members of their communities and the world.

Live It Up’s Method:

To accomplish our mission, we take the following steps:

    • Identify the needs of the children and attend to those needs through developmental, medical, psychosocial, educational and through vocational programs that are fitting within their communities.
    • Nurture the children with the love and attention that is every child’s birthright, so they may grow, learn play and, ultimately, lead productive, dignified adult lives.
  • Encourage strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations, both locally and internationally, so LIU Foundation can extend its reach, use its resources effectively and ensure sustainability.

How can you get involved?

There are a number of ways. You can attend a Conscious Dinner or Conscious Travel. You can purchase Conscious items. You can sponsor a child. Sponsor a school. You can even sponsor a chicken! Visit their website: http://www.liveitup.org for more details.

Here is the flier for Chicken Sponsorship – it’s only AED 100 for an entire year! We are doing it! Hope you’ll join us!
